President Of The VGCL Had A Meeting With The High-Ranking Delegation Of ILO

Also welcoming and working were members of the Presidium, leaders of departments at the VGCL At the meeting, President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Nguyen Dinh Khang congratulated Mr. Gilbert F. Houngbo on being elected as the 11th General Director of the ILO.

Introducing about the Vietnam Trade Union, President Nguyen Dinh Khang emphasized Article 10 of Vietnam Constitution, which established the position of the Vietnam Trade Union and the core tasks of the Vietnam Trade Union in representing, protecting and taking care of the legal and legitimate rights and interests of workers...

President Nguyen Dinh Khang also shared that Vietnam Trade Unions effectively participate in the National Wage Council; cctively research and contribute comments and criticisms on law projects that are closely related to union members and workers such as the Labor Law, the Social Insurance Law (amended), the Law on Occupational Safety and Health and other laws such as: Land Law (amended), Housing Law (amended); and is currently focusing on completing documents to develop the Trade Union Law (amended).

The President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor also said that there are 11 National Assembly delegates who are Trade Union officials. Currently, the Vietnam Trade Union is organizing Trade Union Congresses at all levels, moving towards the 13th Vietnam Trade Union Congress, expected to take place at the end of 2023. The goal of the Vietnam Trade Union is to continue to change new ways of operating to better perform its role.

Regarding the coordination program with the ILO, President Nguyen Dinh Khang affirmed that the Vietnam Trade Union highly appreciates the supporting role of the International Labor Office in general, the ILO Office in Asia and the ILO Office in Vietnam in particular. Through this support, Vietnam has more experience in the activities of International Trade Unions, thereby promoting the building of harmonious, stable and progressive labor relations in Vietnam. During the process of innovation and operation, the Vietnam Trade Union always attaches importance to cooperation and promoting relations with the ILO, as well as international organizations and trade union organizations around the world.

On this occasion, President Nguyen Dinh Khang expressed his hope that the Vietnam Trade Union will continue to receive support from the ILO and from Mr. Gilbert's personal experience, and emphasized that he will work with other Government agencies in Vietnam to promote a good cooperative relationship with the ILO to ensure the highest benefits for workers on the basis of international and domestic law.

In the spirit of openness, the two sides discussed topics such as grassroots union activities; protect the legal and legitimate rights of workers; support Vietnamese workers abroad...

On the ILO side, Mr. Gilbert F. Houngbo expressed his honor to visit and work in Vietnam as ILO General Director, and pledged to continue supporting the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor in various fields and contents as proposed by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor.
