The slogan of the Congress is "For a good life for all". There were 42 international delegates representing national and international trade union organizations that have friendly cooperative relations with OGB from 30 countries in 3 continents invited to attend the OGB Congress.

As the highest body of OGB, the Congress has the participation of 367 delegates, representing 1.2 million OGB trade union members, gathered by 7 member trade unions. Delegates discussed and approved OGB's political goals, priorities and operating programs in the coming time and elected a new leadership team of the organization including 1 Chairman, 2 Vice Chairman, and an Executive Committee and Inspection Committee. Mr. Wolfgang Katzian continues to be trusted by the Congress and was re-elected as OGB President for the 2023-2028 term. Four weeks ago, at the European Trade Union Congress (ETUC), he was also elected as President of ETUC.

On June 20thPresident of the Federal Republic of Austria Alexander Van der Bellen had an intimate meeting with international delegates. On the same day, the Federal President, the Federal Prime Minister, and the Mayor of Vienna City attended and delivered congratulatory speeches at the opening session of the Congress. Also attending were leaders of the Federal Council, the Federal Parliament of the Republic of Austria, the Vice President of the European Parliament and many guests representing ministries, branches and employers.

The Congress recognized that the challenges for Trade Unions and workers have increased many times after successive crises over the past decade (the world financial crisis, the COVID-19 pandemic and the current inflation crisis). Unpredictable changes in the world, risks to human health along with negative fluctuations in the global economy and finance not only increase the risk of social instability but are also an opportunity for the Anti-union forces attack the rights and achievements of the trade union and labor movement. Prosperity, equality, safety, freedom, peace – a good life for all – can only be realized and sustained with true democracy. This requires the solidarity of the labor movement and trade unions, strong trade union organizations and a comprehensive action program.
