On the afternoon of July 19th, Senior Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (VGCL) Tran Thanh Hai had a meeting with the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) delegation led by Mr. Richard Tan, member of the Central Executive Committee, President of NTUC Foreign Affairs Committee.

Also attending was Mr. Nguyen Duc Thinh - Member of the Presidium, Director of the VGCL's International Department; representatives of the Organizing Department, a number of departments of the VGCL and representatives of the Office of Employers, VCCI.
 
The two parties exchanged experiences on union member development; Vietnam's difficulties and challenges since Vietnamese Government ratified Convention No.98 and moved towards ratifying Convention No.87 of the International Labor Organization (ILO) - shared from the perspective of trade unions and businesses; the role of Trade Unions and employers in the context of digital transformation at enterprises.

At the meeting, Senior Vice President Tran Thanh Hai shared that the Vietnam Trade Union was focusing on implementing the goals and tasks of the Resolution of the 12th Congress of the Vietnam Trade Union for the 2018-2023 period, achieving many goals and positive results. In particular, collective bargaining is promoted with 71% of the total number of enterprises that have established grassroots unions having collective bargaining agreements, covering more than 6 million employees, including the contents of salaries, bonuses, and working hours, welfare, occupational safety and hygiene...
 
Currently, the Vietnam Trade Union is focusing on preparing to organize trade union congresses at all levels and the 13th Vietnam Trade Union Congress, over a period of 2023-2028, is expected to take place at the end of this year. This is a very important Congress aiming to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam Trade Union in 2029. In the new term 2023-2028, the Vietnam Trade Union will continue to strongly innovate its organization and operations to better perform the role of representing and protecting the legal and legitimate rights and interests of union members and workers.

Regarding the development of union members, the VGCL always determines that developing union members and establishing grassroots trade unions is an important task in order to gather a large number of workers and employees into the trade union organization to take care of them and protect the legal and legitimate rights and interests of workers;  strongly developing union members is to build a strong trade union organization.

Also at the meeting, the Senior Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor answered and discussed a number of issues of interest to members of the NTUC delegation. Among them, there are union dues payment rates, unemployment of young workers, preparing skills for workers to welcome the "new wave of investment", the establishment of trade unions...

Senior Vice President Tran Thanh Hai said that the Vietnam Trade Union is proposing to amend the Labor Law to create fairness for workers in the digital transformation process, so that workers have opportunities and adapt to the new  labor market with new requirements. The Vietnam Trade Union also directly participates in improving the skills of workers, in which the Vietnam Trade Union's vocational training centers will train and issue vocational certificates to workers...

"For trade union activities, we set the motto that wherever there are workers, there are trade unions and where there are trade unions, the lives of workers are better" - the Senior Vice President emphasized. .

On this occasion, Senior Vice President Tran Thanh Hai also affirmed that in its operational orientation, the Vietnam Trade Union always attaches importance to promoting friendly relations and development cooperation with national and international trade union organizations, especially strong trade union organizations in the region such as NTUC.
